Managing Director& Owner
TransXL has been/is an amazing business- the 2nd generation transfer of ownership in 1992 seems an awfully long time ago. We are now attempting to plan the 3rd generation of ownership from within the employees of the business, 2020 is the perfect vision time for this project.
Our ‘younger’ staff all have 20 years’ service under their belt, so the timing is right if we can make the circumstance right, time will tell but this is a priority legacy project.
Meanwhile my wife Sue and I are enjoying more time way as the ‘boys’ and girls’ of the business strive to help create their own future - and keep us in the style we have been accustomed to, of course !
What do you do at TransXL?
I graduated in 1977 with an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering through a 4 year 'thin sandwich' undergraduate apprenticeship.
By mid-1977 with my young family moved south and joined TransXLas a Salesman. Within 2 years I took over the day to day running of the factory, workshop and eventually the ownership of the business in 1992. I have overseen the free hold acquisition and growth of the site from the initial 14,000sq ft to over 35,000sq ft of buildings and facilities you see today.
With over 3 decades of buying and selling Plastic Process Machinery worldwide, whilst running a small vibrant company in the plastics industry, I channelled my knowledge into our recently updated bespoke computerised database called“e-quipu”. "e-quipu" is the backbone of our organisational needs with all notable information flowing through this fully integrated business solution. The front end of which provides all the web page updating and quotation handing seen by our clients.
My wife wife Sue has also worked for the business for several decades and was a key player during the takeover period, handling all the administration, accounts and the recruitment of most of our office staff. Sue is also an active shareholder and Trustee of the company Pension Fund and often accompanies me on trips to help promote the business. As we are both keen motorcyclists we can be seen arriving at client premises on our gleaming machine.
